Fine Art Childrens and Family Photography

This is a full description and list of prices for what is available.

Please do NOT confuse this with simple white wall photography where you stand against a blank background and the black & white option means simply changing your face to grey.

This style is designed to capture the natural beauty of you and your children with a unique style of editing in colour and Black & White.

This children service is designed for children aged 12 and upwards. They are relaxed sessions of at least an hour so no need to be rushed. Family sessions can include younger children of course, and dependant on the child we can try to attain some portraits if you wish as well.

If you have more than one child then I photograph each one at a time in the session.

The resulting images are designed to be timeless family photographs, completely unique and visually stunning, something that will look equally good as a digital image, or as a large framed canvas/wall art image.

There will be no pressure selling to buy more and all the images on the disk are yours to keep.

Your High Resolution copies will enable you to shop around to achieve the best prices available for prints in any size and format without being tied to me for copies. I am not the type of photographer who holds on to copies to gain more sales.

They are yours to keep and use as you wish or print as many copies as you like for the rest of your family and friends.

How does the session run?

Before the shoot we will discuss the session either on the phone or by email.

I prefer to arrange a pre-shoot visit to discus the shoot face to face.

I will also ask you to agree the terms and conditions via email.

Once the standard booking fee has been paid we can plan everything for the date.

On arrival we will look through the clothing options and decide on the best outfits to achieve the best result.

Please see the advice list below on what to bring and wear.

If we are looking at a costume shoot, vintage, 30’s to 50’s, then we will need to plan ahead. We will look at the colours and decide on the backdrop that will best suit the clothing and era.

For other outfits, we will look through them and decide the best combinations for the look we are going for.

We will try to make the shoot experience as fun as possible. Although we will try to get photographs that show different moods to suit the child and the style, I will endeavour to capture the true essence and personality of your child.

The shoot will be totally relaxed. I do not over book so I can make sure that I have enough good shots during the session to provide a variety of looks. It is not unusual for a session to run out to two hours so allow plenty of time.

Tea, coffee and soft drinks are available throughout the visit.

Myself, and all the people here are DBS checked for your added safety and assurance. We are also fully insured.

Usually within 2 weeks you will be sent a PDF file so you can view all the edited photographs. From these images you will be able to choose the images you like according to the session you have bought. Plus any extras you wish to order.

What to wear and bring to the shoot?

It is really important that you have the right outfit for the shoot. Clothing can make a huge difference to the finished photographs so please feel free to contact me to discuss options beforehand if you have difficulty choosing. Whatever you bring will make all the difference to the finished photographs. I will be looking to create timeless images so I recommend that you bring along plain clothing (i.e. no strong colours, logos, patterns etc.)

The old classic designs work best, casual and formal.  Accessories can also make a big difference, necklaces, glasses, hats, caps, etc. We also have an array of props here to use.

Vintage clothing adds a great feel to the photographs. Victorian or 30’s to 50’s clothing are perfect for both young and old. If you are struggling then there are local costume hire places that you can hire children’s and adults costumes from for the shoot. Ask me for details.

A child in adult’s style clothing also works well, i.e. tweed jackets, country gent styles for boys and outdoor wear and evening dresses for girls. Check out the charity shops and car boots for items as some great bargains can be found. Plan the outfits very carefully. I encourage you to bring several changes of clothing. We have the time to change in to two or three different outfits.

Hair, Makeup and appearance.

For Adults.

Hair should be clean, down and free flowing. We have a resident Lady Hair stylist at the studio that will help with styling on the day. We also have a lady makeup artist but she is £15 extra for the typical one hour session. If this is something you would like to book please inform us at the time of booking. Adults, who wish to, should apply their makeup here with guidance. I use soft neutral lighting so heavy makeup can look unsightly.

Please inform us of any allergies that you or the children may have to hair or makeup products at the time of booking so we can prepare.

For children.

Hair should be clean, down and free flowing. If it needs it then it can be put up during the shoot and have a quick style. If you have decorative hair pieces then they can be used as well but bring them along so we can decide.

Please bring the children fresh faced with no make-up. If this needs applying then you can add this on the day or if you book the makeup service we will do it.

If you are conscious of spots or scratches then don’t worry about covering them up with heavy makeup as I can remove them in the editing stage.

Adults, please do not fake tan before the session, and if you use foundation then please bear in mind this needs to be carefully blended into the neck or it will show.

Again if you have any questions please ask.

Nail varnish should be complete on all hands if used. Please, do not use bright garish colours. I prefer it if the nails are clean and clear on children as the hands will definitely be on show. If we shoot period then nail varnish is a no go. If nail varnish is on an adult then check there are no chips, missing nail extensions etc. Also, consider the feet as some shots may have bare feet.
